A Place to Belong
As the organization grew, Easterseals Iowa began creating spaces where individuals and families could gather, connect and thrive through recreation, community and shared expreience.
1958
Clarence and Thyra Yarn generously donate 80 acres of woodland south of Ankeny, laying the foundation for what would become Camp Sunnyside.
1959 - 1961
Following years of community-led fundraising, Camp Sunnyside becomes a reality and welcomes its first full season of campers in 1961.
1968
The Pony Express Ride launches in northwest Iowa, uniting riders, volunteers and supporters in a 55+ year tradition that has raised more than $12 million for Easterseals Iowa.
