About Us!
Our Child Development Center was licensed in August 2002, and we serve children ages 6 weeks to 5 years. We were the first in Polk County to bring together children with and without disabilities in a day care center, caring for the unique needs of each child.
Governor Ray and his wife Billie have been involved with Easter Seals for more than 35 years. Prior to the building of Camp Sunnyside, Billie helped with our recreation program for kids with disabilities in the Des Moines Parks. Bob and Billie have been dear friends of Easter Seals throughout our history and are our longest-tenured volunteers. The Child Development Center was named for Bob and Billie in honor of their history and devotion to helping children with disabilities, as well as their focus on developing character in children of all abilities.
Children who need tube feedings, suctioning and other medical attention are mainstreamed with other children. All children benefit from knowing each other simply as kids and playmates with whom they can play, learn from, and grow.
The Bob & Billie Ray Child Development Center is located at Camp Sunnyside on 80 beautiful acres. We offer amenities not available elsewhere - horseback riding, year-round swimming, the Variety Recreation Center, nature trails, a spacious playground and more.
We look forward to seeing you soon at the Bob & Billie Ray Child Development Center!
